Bengaluru Receives Heavy Rainfall: City Grapples with Waterlogging and Traffic Disruptions

Naveen news

Bengaluru, often referred to as India’s Silicon Valley, experienced intense and prolonged rainfall over the past few days, bringing relief from the summer heat but also causing widespread disruptions. The downpour, which began late last night, has continued intermittently, leading to waterlogging in several parts of the city and traffic snarls during peak hours.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the rainfall was caused by a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, influencing weather patterns across southern India. Areas such as Koramangala, Indiranagar, Whitefield, and Jayanagar reported inundated roads, with some low-lying localities seeing water entering homes and shops.

Commuters faced major delays as key junctions were submerged, forcing traffic to a crawl. Public transport was impacted, with BMTC buses taking alternate routes and several trains delayed due to track flooding in some regions.

Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors unless travel is necessary. BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) teams have been deployed to clear clogged drains and assist in pumping out water from heavily affected areas. Emergency helplines have been activated, and disaster management teams are on standby.

While Bengaluru is no stranger to monsoon rains, the city's aging drainage system and rapid urban development continue to amplify the effects of heavy downpours. Experts emphasize the urgent need for better urban planning and improved stormwater infrastructure to prevent future flooding crises.

Stay tuned to local news and weather updates as the city prepares for more rain in the coming days.
