Mangoes worth Rs 4 crore destroyed in America, consignment came from India, you will be surprised to know the reason

Mangoes worth Rs 4 crore destroyed in America, consignment came from India, you will be surprised to know the reason

Indian mangoes did not get approval in America

Indian Mangoes Destroy in US: America has returned a shipment of 15 mangoes from India. The reason for this is a discrepancy in the papers related to radiation. Exporters decided to destroy these mangoes in America as well. Their value is more than Rs 4 crore.

New Delhi:  America is the biggest buyer of mangoes from India. Recently, America returned 15 consignments of mangoes sent from India by air. The reason for this was said to be discrepancies in the documents. American officials said that either these mangoes should be destroyed in America itself or sent back to India. The price of these mangoes is said to be more than Rs 4 crore.

According to the Economic Times, due to the perishability of mangoes and the high cost of shipping them back to India, all exporters decided to destroy them. These mangoes were irradiated in Mumbai on May 8 and 9. Irradiation is a process in which fruits are exposed to controlled amounts of radiation. This kills the insects present in the fruit and the fruit lasts longer.

Why was the consignment stopped?

These consignments were stopped at airports like Los Angeles, San Francisco and Atlanta. US officials pointed out errors in the documents related to the irradiation process. According to the exporters, the problem was not due to insects, but due to errors in the documents related to the process of killing the insects.

According to US officials, the process of killing the insects in these mangoes was not followed properly. According to officials, an error has been found in the radiation process.

Radiation in the presence of an official

Two exporters expressed concern on the condition of anonymity. One exporter said that there have been mistakes in the radiation facility. He said that the radiation process takes place at a center in Navi Mumbai. An official of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) is also present there.

This officer is responsible for certifying the PPQ203 form. This form is necessary for mangoes going to the US. The exporter further said that he is being punished for the mistakes made in the radiation facility.

Why is the only option of destruction?

Mangoes get spoiled quickly. It also costs a lot to destroy them or send them back. Therefore, exporters are estimated to suffer a loss of about $ 500,000 (about Rs 4.28 crore).

The USDA sent a notice to an affected exporter. It said that US Customs and Border Protection did not clear the consignment due to an incorrectly issued PPQ203. The notice also said that the consignment should be re-exported or destroyed. The US government will not provide any compensation for this consignment.

Exporters refute the claim

The exporter strongly refuted the US officials' claim. He said that the irradiation process had been completed. The PPQ203 form was issued only after the process. He questioned, 'How can we get the form if the irradiation process was not followed properly? And without that form, which has been issued by the USDA official, the mangoes could not even be allowed to be loaded at the Mumbai airport.'
